So the Olympics are winding down and pretty soon we will be gearing up for Football Season and I am getting excited! I feel Labor day is one of the most up and down weekends of the year. On one hand you have the end of Summer and all the fun of beaches/lakes/mountains and on the other you have the excitement of the start of football the end of re-runs on TV. Congrats to Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh on a great win in the rain last night. Womens Beach Volleyball is becoming a very popular sport among men 18-35, I wonder why?
OK and on to my Week 3 Top 10 for the games on Sunday September 19th, as always all game times are EST.
- Steelers at Eagles - 4:15 PM - The Battle of Pennsylvania will be in Philly for an afternoon affair. For those of you not from the Keystone State, Pittsburghers and Philadelphians don’t like each other and each others teams. The days of the Steagles are long gone when the two teams merged during World War II to stay afloat. The last time the Steelers played in Philly during a regular season game they lost in overtime in a frustrating game. I am actually thinking the same will happen this time around given the fact that the Eagles will be healthy and making a turnaround this year. Eagles 27 - Steelers 24
- Jets at Chargers - 8:30 PM Monday Night - So the Football Gods are smiling on the NFL this season. Without self idolized Brett Favre this game would be well below the radar and more people would be watching Heros and How I Met Your Mother then making sure to catch the beginning of this game. If All Time QB1 beats the Chargers on the road on a Monday Night the New York Press will love him, but if he goes down and throws some picks in this one, look out, because the New York Media might make him retire next year. I always like the better team early in the season especially at home and think the Charger win 28 - 20.
- Cowboys at Packers - 8:15 PM - The Boys head up north for a nice fall evening against the Pack. Should be an interesting game and really should be a major test for Aaron Rogers. I feel a lot of games will be up in the air this week because great teams are playing good teams on the road. I don’t think the Cowboys will jump on the Packers like they did last year and the game will be a low scoring battle. Cowboys 21 - Packers 20.
- Jaguars at Colts - 4:15 PM - The Jags visit the Oil Can for a big AFC South bout. In division games usually the home team has the advantage, but in this one the Colts who are not going to be completely healthy from their preseason injuries. Out of all the games this one will probably be a ground churning, clock burning yawner. Jags 20 - Colts 17.
- Saints at Broncos - 4:05 PM - So the Saints travel up a mile to Denver to play the Broncos. Denver seems to be in a mess since the AFC Championship game a few years back and can never pick a number one running back. Other then the thinner air, the Saints should put up enough points to stay in front of the Broncos (34 - 24).
- Bengals at Giants - 1:00 PM - The Giants host the Bengals in one of the early games and probably your best bet to get a good deal on tickets in the Medowlands for the Champs. I believe the Bengals will have a bounce back season, but I don’t think they can take down the Giants. I think this will be the early fantasy special with plenty of points on both sides of the ball. Giants 42 - Bengals 31.
- Cardinals at Redskins - 1:00 PM - Another AFC East team gets to host an early afternoon game. Here is your early DC Beltway Traffic alert!!! Don’t take the Beltway in Maryland from 10 AM to 1 PM. OK, back to reality oops there goes gravity. So plenty to like about this game, might be a good opp for tickets and could be a good game for the Cardinals. If John McCain is back in town, do you think he makes an appearance at the game? He probably shouldn’t but I think he would like the results. Cardinals 28 - Redskins 24.
- Panthers at Vikings - 1:00 PM - Carolina gets back Steve Smith after his two game suspension. What could be great news for the Panthers should not be as big a deal as the development of Jonathan Stewart. The Vikings better not take this one lightly, although as professionals they probably will not. I think this is a tough one to pick, but always go with the team with the better ground game at home. Vikings 24 - Panters 20.
- Browns at Ravens - 4:15 PM - Anytime an owner switches towns and his old “team” comes back to life to play his new team means a spot in the Top 10. So I think most of the bad blood is starting to wear off, but if you lived in Bmore when the Colts took off, I assume you were pretty bitter for a while. The East Coast has some great home games this week so if you are anywhere from Boston to DC you should be able to score some seats. I am going to go with the Ravens at home in what should be a fun tailgating day 24 - 16.
- Dolphins at Patriots - 1:00 PM - Patriot ticket bargain of the year! A familiar face shows up with the Dolphins at QB in Chad Pennington (Bear). The Swimming Mammals are like a patch work quilt, I don’t think we know what it looks like now but it could be something nice (good record), something interesting (average but in some games), or that yellow brownish part could ruin it all (that means you Ricky Williams). Well for all you Pats fans without season tickets, this might be a chance to snag some at a decent price. Early season games are usually cheaper then late season, especially 1 PM games. I love the pats in this beat down 35 - 13.
